Križevci and Kalničko prigorje are well connected with several bike paths. The trails pass through the existing roads with little traffic and visit cultural and historical attractions that reveal the centuries-old history of Križevci’s Upper and Lower Towns, lead to the mysterious Knights Templar in Glogovnica, fortified medieval churches in Kalnik, Sv. Petar Orehovec, Gornja Rijeka and to the fortifications of Veliki and Mali Kalnik.

Bike paths and roads around Križevci and its surroundings are intended for cyclists, recreationists, families and everyone who enjoys life in nature.

With the beginning of a forest interspersed with hiking trails, right next to the remnants of the history-rich Old Town Kalnik. If the remnants of the walls could speak, they would have something to say about the heroism and superhuman resistance on the occasion of the Tatar invasion, when King Bela IV gifted by the Kalnik castellan Filip Bebek. We would also remember the renaissance during the reign of King Sigismund, who was a frequent and welcome guest there to his wife Barbara of Celje (Black Queen).

Legend has it that brave peasants saved King Bela IV. from the onslaught of the Mongols, driving away the greedy plunderers with plums. After the heroic feat, everyone received noble titles, and the people remembered them as plum growers. Today’s travelers there hide not from the Mongols but from the city noise and stress, so they rest their souls in peace and quiet.
